The Schwaben Male Chorus in its current state is deeply grateful and appreciative of the men, who, back in 1934, joined together to preserve and promote the German Song. "Das Deutsche Lied" remains a very special part of our Cultural heritage and tradition. Naturally, it required a great number of dedicated and devoted singers and supporters to continue throughout the decades of the previous century up to the present.

No language in the world has a larger treasury of beautiful songs to exhibit than the German language. Germany and Austria have given birth to the most and best composers in the history of music. It is no small wonder that German-speaking immigrants of this brilliant cultural heritage have planted, cultivated, fostered and protected this devotion to, and love for, this music in the United States. Some came for religious freedom, some came for political freedom, and some came for greater economic opportunities. Whatever their reason, over 5 million German immigrants have entered the United States since the 1600s. Today, nearly 45 million Americans consider themselves German-Americans. With pride, we continue the tradition of song which our forefathers and we brought to this great land. With so many Americans of German descent, it is not surprising that German singing societies are found everywhere in the continental United States. It is also no surprise, since Germans formed the largest group of immigrants between 1840 and 1880, that many singing societies and the Nord-Amerikanischer Sängerbund were founded in this time period. In the years and decades that followed, the Schwaben Male Chorus became well known and enjoyed many successes with their concerts, guest performances and also performances of plays. Even during the somber years of the second world war, the rehearsal continued on a regular basis. Concerts and other performances were well attended even during those years thanks to a very supportive and appreciative attitude by the German emigrant community. Numerous Thanks To The Nord-Amerikanischer Sängerbund

THE ART OF MAKING FINE SAUERKRAUT...

For many years the Schwäbische Männerchor follows the good tradition of making Sauerkraut. One weekend day in late October or early November gets chosen to meet in the garage of our music director, Erwin Aufdemberge, to make Sauerkraut. The total amount of cabbage processed exceeds typically 2000 lbs. The members who are actively participating in making the kraut, take a certain quantity home for their own usage. But a certain amount is also kept aside for the explicit purpose to prepare kraut dishes for a family gathering sometime in late January or early February of the following year. Over the years the kraut making evolved into a real nice social outing for the choir members. As the kraut is being processed, it is not rare that someone starts to sing a song known to the choir members and before long, the whole group chimes in. There are eye witness accounts that quite often a person passing on the road would stop and listen to the singing emanating. Well, there is something to be said about the good old German saying; "Wo man singt da lass Dich ruhig nieder denn böse Menschen kennen keine Lieder!".....
